Former Russell Teacher Honored

Beth WalizerFort Hays State University Teacher Education Professor Dr. Beth Walizer has been selected as an Icon of Education by Ingram's Kansas City Business Magazine.

Each year, this publication selects 10 educators and industry professionals from Kansas and Missouri.

The criteria are as follows: Icons of Education are those who, with the body of their work in classrooms or administrative roles, have demonstrated exceptional ability to influence students and elevate their academic performance, or whose administrative contributions have enabled teaching staffs to do the same.

Walizer graduated from FHSU with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1979 and a Master of Science in Education Administration in 1992. She earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Assessment with an emphasis in reading from Kansas State University in 2004.

She taught elementary grades for USD 407 in Russell from August 1979 until May 2003. She began teaching as an adjunct in 2001 for the Department of Teacher Education at FHSU. In August 2003, Dr. Walizer became a full time faculty member. Currently, she is a professor teaching reading and language arts methods courses.
