USD 407 Board Approves Security Upgrades and New Graduation Requirement

USD 407 BOE 10-8-18The USD 407 Board of Education met Monday evening at the Central Office in Russell and approved several items.

First on the list were new exterior front doors and security systems at all schools according to Superintendent Shelly Swayne...

Board members also approved the purchase of a Case IH tractor from Radke Implement. The district had been using the tractor through a lease agreement, but the plan is about to end.

Another approved item was a new graduation requirement of future Russell High School students according to Swayne...

Swayne says the Board began discussions of a possible random drug testing plan...

Also at Monday's meeting, the Board discussed student electronic devices, district preschool, bus bids and use of KASB to aid in search for new Russell High School principal, but no action was taken.

The board approved several resignations - Tammi Burhle (assistant softball coach at RHS), Meagan Englert (teacher at RMS), Dan Rheingans (teacher at RHS), Savanna Ryan (assistant girls basketball coach at RMS) and Lisa Schroeder (teacher at RMS).

The board approved new contracts to Bailey Burgess (assistant track coach at RHS), Bernadette Cowell (Paraprofessional and Breakfast Supervisor at Simpson Elementary), Veronica Fuentes (Secretary at RHS), Kaylee Maier (Special Education Paraprofessional at RHS) and Melvin Williams (Custodian at RHS).
