High Winds Hit Russell Area

NWS Satellite Photo 3-13-19The same strong winter storm that brought heavy snow and blizzard conditions to Colorado, Wyoming and parts of Nebraska on Wednesday and Thursday is also having a significant impact on the weather in the Russell area, mainly in the form of high winds.

On Wednesday, the Russell Airport reported a peak gust of 62 miles per hour and winds over 50 miles per hour have been reported again on Thursday.

Those same high winds are blamed for a semi rollover along Interstate 70 near Wilson on Wednesday.

Other reports of broken tree limbs and downed power poles have been reported across Kansas.

Most of the heavy rain missed the Russell area. 48 hour rainfall reports have ranged from .50 to 1.20.

Sunny skies, much less wind and daytime highs in the middle to upper 50s are forecast for this weekend.
