USD 407 BOE Votes to Move Forward with $9.9 Million Bond

USD 407 BOE 10-8-18The USD 407 Board of Education voted unanimously Monday evening to move forward with a new proposed bond amount to take to school district voters in November for consideration.

The new bond amount is $9.9 million over 11 years.

Also Monday, the Board voted to apply to join the Mid-Continent League for sports and activities.

The MCL member schools and the Kansas State High School Activities Association will review the application and, if approved, Russell would join the league beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.

The MCL currently includes Ellis, TMP-Marian, Hill City, Norton, Oakley, Phillipsburg, Plainville, Smith Center, Stockton and WaKeeney-Trego. Beginning in 2019-2020, Hoxie will also join.

Russell is currently a member of the North Central Activities Association with Beloit, Ellsworth, Minneapolis, Republic County, Sacred Heart and Southeast of Saline.

In other action on Monday, the Board approved a new lease agreement with OPI for black and white copiers, handbook updates, partnership with the Rural Opportunity Zone program, a cooperative agreement with the Hays school district for gifted services and the purchase of a new volleyball divider curtain for Amos Morris Gym for $13,000.
