USD 112 BOE Votes to Close Central Plains Middle School

Central Plains Middle SchoolThe Central Plains USD 112 Board of Education has voted to close Central Plains Middle School in Bushton effective July 1 to save money.

According to KAKE News, the vote passed 5-2 on Monday.

The USD 112 Board of Education has been discussing budget concerns throughout the last several months. At one point, the option to close Wilson High School was on the table. Wilson is part of the Central Plains district.

USD 112 Superintendent Greg Clark told KRSL News the option to close Wilson High School was only considered early on in the process and when talking about budget cuts, the viability of all buildings in a district is considered, but closing Wilson was never at the top of the list. He said there are enough students at Wilson to leave it open, however, it's harder to justify having three buildings - Central Plains Elementary, Middle and High Schools - open in the southern part of the district.

CPMS housed the district's 5th through 8th grades. The 5th and 6th graders will be moved to the elementary school in Holyrood, while the 7th and 8th graders will be relocated to Central Plains High School in Claflin according to KAKE.
