Russell Man Arrested After Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement

Drug ArrestA Russell man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Russell on drug and other charges after attempting to elude law enforcement officers twice.

According to Russell County Sheriff Fred Whitman, the Sheriff's Office received a tip that Emanuel Dean Langston III of Russell was in the area of 11th and Main in Russell. Langston was wanted for a probation violation.

Sheriff's Office and Russell Police Department units responded to the area.

At 12:51 PM Tuesday, Langston was located at 11th and Main hiding in a garage. He fled north on foot, tried to jump a fence and was tased by responding law enforcement.

He was placed under arrest at 12th and Main on the strength of the warrant and then transported to Russell Regional Hospital by Russell County EMS.

Sheriff Whitman also said Langston was charged with obstruction, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 2 PM Tuesday, a Sheriff's Deputy requested backup at Russell Regional Hospital as Langston tried to escape.

He was taken back into custody and was additionally charged with escape from custody.
