Boltin Family Selected as Russell's Family of the Year

Boltin Family 2019The Boltin family has been selected as Russell's 2019 Family of the Year.

Steve and Melody Boltin have three sons, 22-year-old Malachai, 19-year-old Isaac and 14-year-old Zeke.

The Board of Directors of Russell Main Street, Inc. selects the honored family each year.

"As we serve our community and make Russell a better place for all, it is important that we take a minute to recognize the families that make us a community," said Russell Main Street Executive Director Krista Whitmer. "We know we have many outstanding families, but it is our honor to recognize one deserving family each year."

According to one of the nomination letters, "Each family has a different set of values that are meaningful to them and the Boltin family certainly show that their values are carried on and passed down through to the next generation."

The letter continues, "Steve and Melody are the parents of three sons, Malachai, Isaac and Zeke. For years they were both very involved in Russell Relay for Life in which Melody was one of the organizers. Melody was also very involved in PTO for the kids while in grade school and moved up and was very involved in Booster Club when the boys were in high school. The entire family has also helped with working at the Food Pantry for many years. They were also active supporters of any school or sports activity their three sons were involved in. They have raised responsible, polite and hard working young men, which is a reflection of the kind of parenting that they do."

"The two older boys, Malachai and Isaac, like their parents, are RHS graduates. Malachai lives here in Russell and Isaac is in the Marines stationed in California at this time. Zeke is a freshman at Russell High School."

"Steve has been an EMT for Russell County EMS for 28 years and is also the deputy district coroner for Russell County for over 15 years. Melody works for Dr. Paul Lampert. Both have careers that are very public service oriented, but they both go above and beyond what is expected of their jobs to help and serve the Russell population. They will always go that extra mile and offer their assistance to those in need."

"The last several years have been very difficult for Steve, Melody and their family dealing with some health issues of Steve's, but throughout they have remained positive and stick together with a strong commitment to survive and carry on as a family and they clearly have a vision of what is important and what is not in this life."

And from another nomination letter, "They are there for each other and also their extended family. Thing is, it doesn't stop with family, you need a hand, a shoulder to cry on, a meal in your tummy, they help."

The Boltin family will be honored in Main Street fashion during Russell's Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday.
