Addressed at Monday's meeting was a facilities planning discussion involving talks on the future use of district buildings. Superintendent Dave Couch says an architectural firm out of Salina presented the board with four preliminary options that would possibly reduce the district's operating costs.
"At this point and time, two of them (options) involve closing Simpson," said Couch. "A third option would be closing Simpson and the Central Office, and then the most extreme of the options would be closing three buildings and building a K-6 out by Russell High School."
No action was taken as the focus of the presentation was only informative in nature and was designed to explain what options the district has, also including leaving all district buildings open for use.
Also addressed at Monday's board meeting was continued discussion of bids to air condition the Ruppenthal Middle School Auditorium with no action being taken and also the approval for the Russell High School Baseball Team to enter in to a cooperative sports agreement with Victoria. The Victoria Board of Education met Monday as well, and did address the cooperative agreement, but is still in planning stages with the proposal and took no action. Victoria school officials plan to poll students for interest, and will readdress the issue at their next meeting.Read More Local News
