Election 2020 Filing Deadline is June 1

VoteRussell County Clerk and Election Officer Mary Nuss advises that anyone wanting to file for local elected offices can do so until Noon on June 1, 2020.

Please call the Clerk's Office to set up an appointment to fill out your paperwork and pay filing fees. Please contact the Russell County Clerk's Office at 785-483-4641 for details.

Local positions up for election in 2020 include:

  • One candidate for County Commissioner, 2nd and 3rd District.
  • One candidate for County Clerk.
  • One candidate for County Treasurer.
  • One candidate for County Register of Deeds.
  • One candidate for County Sheriff.
  • One candidate for County Attorney.
  • One candidate for Hospital Board Position 1, 6 and 7 and one unexpired term, Position 2.
  • One candidate for Township Trustee and Treasurer for each of the 12 townships: Big Creek, Center, Fairfield, Fairview, Grant, Lincoln, Luray, Paradise, Plymouth, Russell, Waldo and Winterset.

The following officers will be elected in each political party which has qualified to participate in the Primary Election:

  • One Precinct Committeeman in each precinct.
  • One Precinct Committeewoman in each precinct.

The following positions are open for Russell and Lucas cities:

  • One candidate for Russell City Council Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4.
  • Three candidates for Lucas City Council at large.

The deadline for change of party affiliation for the upcoming Primary Election is June 1 at Noon. If you would like to change your party, please contact the County Clerk's Office at 785-483-4641.

Russell County will be having a Primary Election on August 4, 2020. With the unknown circumstances caused by COVID-19, Nuss reminds you there are three ways to cast your ballot:

  • Advance voting in person. You may advance vote in person 14 days prior to the August 4 Election in the Russell County Clerk's Office. Please bring your ID.
  • Advance vote by mail. Voters may request a ballot by mail upon completion of an advance ballot application. A ballot will be mailed to voters 20 days prior to any election. The last day to apply for advance ballots by mail is seven days prior to any election.
  • Election day in person. Polling locations will be open throughout Russell County to cast your ballot in person on election day with polls being open 7 AM to 7 PM.
