Friday Feel Good: A Big Step for the Deines

Friday Feel Good #1 6-26-20Due to the overwhelming expense of the renovation to the Deines Cultural Center in Russell, many plans that were designed in the past were unattainable.

Since the founding of the Deines, the upstairs had been left unfinished. But with potential for additional space for visual art, presentations and public events and the support from the Russell County Area Community Foundation, the second-floor landing of the Deines was recently transformed.

The funds were used to install the wall, floor and movable wall for the upstairs foyer gallery displaying the collection of the Friends of the Deines.

"What looked like haphazard storage and neglected space is now a usable room for art display and events," said grantee Shannon Trevethan. "This not only makes a great place to showcase the artwork the Friends of the Deines have collected through donation but adds an elegant ambiance for private and public events hosted at the Deines. This project would have never happened without the help of the Community Foundation. There is more to be done, but this is a huge step in the right direction. Thank you."
