Local Youth Earn Top Honors at Livestock Show

Kansas Livestock14 Russell County students earned honors at the 80th Annual Kansas Junior Livestock Show September 21 through 24 in Wichita.

Top honors of Grand Champion Market Steer went to Payton Stoppel of Russell with her 1,300-lb. crossbreed. She beat out 123 other competitors to win the award. Stoppel's steer was then later purchased for $12,544 during the Auction of Champions.

Lane Mai of Russell took the Grand Champion Market Hog title with his 270-lb. dark crossbreed. His hog was later sold for $3,085.

Other notable award winners include Grady Dickerson of Paradise as the Reserve Champion Junior Cattle Showman and Marissa Bland of Lucas as a $1,000 KJLS Scholarship Winner.
