Also, folks have the option of dropping off items at the Santa's Helpers new location, which is 324 North Front Street in Russell.
On Saturday, November 10 from 7 AM until 3 PM a collection truck will be in the west parking lot outside of Russell High School. People may place new or gently used toys in the truck during those hours.
A second collection will be done Wednesday evening, November 14, beginning at 7 PM. The community is asked to place any donated items on their front porches in sacks clearly marked "Santa's Helpers" and leave their porch lights on until the items are collected. For this collection, Santa's Helpers is seeking youth or adults interested in forming teams to go out and collect the donations from people's porches and transport them to Santa's Helpers shop. Any interested individuals or groups may report to the new Santa's Helpers shop on the 14 at 7 PM with vehicles to form teams and receive instructions.
For 30 years, Santa's Helpers has been available to help those in need at Christmas time by providing new and gently used toys for free. Finding the previous building behind the Church of Christ condemned earlier this year, Santa's Helpers found themselves in a position of making a choice to discontinue the program or find a new location. Thanks to the generosity of one of Santa's Helpers, Denise Guth, a building has been donated at 324 North Front Street and the program will continue.
As in the past, Santa's Helpers will accept new and gently used toys or teen items and cash donations or gift cards. Merchandise can be dropped off anytime and placed under the carport at 324 North Front Street. Cash or gift cards can be mailed to the address listed herein. Any person or group willing to help in toy preparation, collection or distribution may call Aura Davis at 445-9112.Read More Local News
