Commissioners Discuss County Appointments, Reorganization

Russell County CourthouseThe Russell County Commission addressed beginning of the year business at its regular meeting Monday, with county reorganization, board appointments and insurance updates on the list of topics discussed.

Newly elected and sworn-in Commissioner Brad Zweifel says Monday's meeting was quite long, partly because of the many position appointments that had to be made.

"We had quite a few appointments that we had to redo and we went through each name individually and got those appointments rectified," said Zweifel.

Some of those appointments included the naming of members to the County's joint Extension Council with Ellsworth County. Monte Mai and Ralph Homeier were named to two year terms and Alane Radke and Rhonda Haberer were named to four year terms.

Also, Russell County Fire District Chiefs and other county positions were appointed or reappointed by the Commissioners. Within their own body, the Commissioners voted to retain Alan Kuntzsch as the Commission's Chairman and to elect Zweifel as the Vice Chair.

Zweifel thanked the Russell County citizens Monday that voted him into office and he says he is ready to get to work.

"I am thoroughly enjoying it and I have been going for the last year to the meetings, so I am not completely new to it," Zweifel said. "I do enjoy it and that's why I ran for it."

Other items discussed at Monday's Russell County Commission meeting included employee and personnel matters with EMS Director Jennifer Cisneros, a monthly update from Janae Talbott of Economic Development and Convention and Visitors Bureau, and emergency operation planning with Emergency Management Director Keith Haberer.
