Record Highs Monday, Snow Tuesday

1-30-13 Snow NWS graphicAfter Russell reached a record high of 76 degrees Monday, just one day later on Tuesday into Wednesday morning three inches of snow blanketed the area.

According to National Weather Service Meteorologist Chance Hayes, the snow that fell Tuesday evening in the area was a very wet snow, equating to anywhere from about a quarter of a inch of moisture to as much as four-tenths of an inch.

Hayes said in Russell County higher snow accumulations were reported in the eastern and southeastern sections of the county - the Wilson Lake area specifically - while slightly less was reported in the northwest.

Area temperatures will remain in the 30's Wednesday, but 40's and 50's are forecasted for later this week and the weekend.
