Water Release Begins

Water DropThe release of water from Cedar Bluff Reservoir to replenish the water levels at the City of Russell's Pfiefer well field began Thursday morning at 10 AM.

According to Russell Public Works Director Arlyn Unrein, the water will be released at 250 cubic feet per second for the first 24 hours, 150 cubic feet per second for the next 48 hours, and then 50 cubic feet per second for another four days after that.

Unrein said he will be monitoring the release closely and if the water moves faster than expected, the release rate and times will be changed accordingly.

It is still uncertain how much of the allotted 2,000 acre-feet of water will need to be released, but Unrein hopes it's only about half to 1,200 acre-feet of it.

The Russell City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting on Tuesday to request the release.
