USD 407 Activity, Athletic Director Mark Paul Resigns, MINUTES NOW INCLUDED

Mark PaulThe USD 407 Board of Education accepted the resignation of District Activity and Athletic Director Mark Paul at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday evening after discussing the matter for more than three hours in executive session.

Superintendent Dave Couch explains when Paul's last day will be and says he, the other administrators and the Board will have to further discuss what they want in a replacement before a decision is made.

"He will finish his contract; resignation will be effective at the end of his current contract, which is June 30," Couch said. "We've had several discussions over the last few years about whether we should have a 7-12 AD, a 9-12 AD or an assistant principal AD. Some of those things need to be finalized before the search for Mark's replacement actually takes place."

Several people - teachers, coaches and public citizens - attended the meeting on Thursday to speak in support of Paul during the Board's Public Forum period, but in the end, only Board Member Kevin Ochs voted against accepting Paul's resignation. Board Member Jon Quinday was not in attendance for the meeting or the vote.

Other numerous retirements and resignations were also accepted at the meeting. Retirements accepted included Ruppenthal Middle School Physical Education Teacher and Russell High School Head Wrestling Coach Wyatt Frohling, Bickerdyke Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Patty Driscoll, Simpson Elementary School Music Instructor Tally Hickman, RHS English Teacher Linda Hohman, RHS English and Journalism Teacher Jane Wagner and RHS Math Teacher Frieda Penrod. Resignations accepted included RHS Special Education Paraprofessional Stephanie Brown, RHS and RMS Industrial Arts Teacher Chris Look, BES and SES Title I Teacher Gaylene Spears and Paul.
