According to the National Weather Service of Wichita, only Rush and Kingman Counties recorded more tornadoes in 2012 - Rush with 12 and Kingman with 11.
The NWS says 94 confirmed tornadoes occurred around the state last year resulting in 50 injuries and one fatality - that death coming as a result of the February 28 Harveyville tornado.
The most significant storm to hit the Russell area in 2012 occurred on May 25, when a rope tornado struck a residential area just south of Fossil Lake, damaged several homes and out-buildings, destroyed one home and injured one woman.
