Large Grass Fire Occurs Tuesday Near Russell County Landfill

3-26 Fire Pic 3According to emergency personnel scanner traffic, a large grass fire near the Russell County Landfill caused multiple area fire departments to respond Tuesday afternoon.

Reportedly the fire was a controlled burn of a silo and brush pile that got out of control and burned about 60 to 80 acres of pastureland northeast of the landfill on Land Road, according to the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

Russell Grant Fire Department, Russell City Fire Department, Russell County EMS, Russell County Sheriff's Department, and Bunker Hill, Gorham, Lucas, Luray, Natoma, Paradise and Waldo Fire Departments all responded to the blaze. The Russell County Highway Department also responded with road graders.

The fire was paged out at just after 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and extinguished by around 3:30 PM.

No injuries occurred.
