US Congressman Huelskamp to Visit Russell Saturday for Art Awards Reception

Deines Cultural CenterEntries are arriving at the Deines Cultural Center for the 2013 First Congressional High School Arts Competition, and to announce this year's winners, United States Congressman Tim Huelskamp will make a stop in Russell on Saturday.

The winning "best of show" artwork will be displayed in the US Capitol for one year.

The presentation of this year's competition is hosted by the Deines Cultural Center, located at 820 N. Main in Russell. Art work will be on display only between noon and 3 PM on Saturday, April 6.Tim Huelskamp picture

Awards will be given in each of seven categories and will be awarded by Congressman Huelskamp at a reception at 2 PM on Saturday at the Center. The artwork will be judged by Lee Powers, Chair of the Art Department at Fort Hays State University.

The Congressional Arts competition categories include paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. Over 100 pieces have been submitted from Little River, Osborne, Hill City and Wheatland High Schools.
