Russell County Commission Purchases New Ambulance

Russell County CourthouseMoney was spent at the most recent regular meeting of the Russell County Commission on Monday as the Commissioners approved the purchase of a new ambulance and discussed both haying and chemical bids for use near county roadways.

Russell County EMS Director Jennifer Cisneros had requested at previous meetings that either a new ambulance or at least a new chassis to mount an ambulance box on was desperately needed because of age and disrepair issues of current equipment. Commissioner Brad Zweifel says he and his colleagues decided to simply approve the purchase of a brand new ambulance.

Haying bids for seven lots along Russell County roadways were also approved at the meeting with every one of the bids being awarded to the highest bidder. Those bidders will now have the rights to cut and bale the grass in the various approved roadway ditches.

Larry Purdy of the Noxious Weed Department was present at the meeting as well to discuss bids for chemicals to be used along county roadways in the ditches. Zweifel said bids were awarded to four different bidders for about 10 to 15 various chemicals.

An update on the possible installation of an elevator at the County Courthouse was discussed too. According to Zweifel, an engineering company has been hired to come in, assess the situation and provide options.
