Preston Officially Becomes Russell Fire Chief

City Clerk Sheldon Hamilton administers Oath of Office to PrestonShane Preston officially took over as the Fire Chief for the City of Russell on Wednesday, May 1.

He took the oath of office at 9am at the City Building.

Preston replaces Interim Fire Chief Steve Knopp and retired former Fire Chief Sam Schmidt.

Preston has worked for the City of Russell Fire Department since 2004, where he served as Firefighter and Lieutenant before being promoted to Fire Captain in 2007.

Retired Fire Chief Sam Schmidt congratulates PrestonHe is a life-long Kansan, who grew up in Alma and attended college at NCK Tech in Beloit where he earned an associate degree in automotive technology. Preston and his wife Shanda have lived in Russell for the last eight years.

He has attained national certification as Firefighter 1 and 2, Driver and Pumper, Aerial Operator, Haz-Mat Operations and Incident Command for Expanding Incidents.
