Friday Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

Drug ArrestTwo people were arrested on drug charges Friday evening after a routine traffic stop on the western edge of Russell led to the discovery of marijuana and methamphetamine in the vehicle.

According to a recent police report, at 6 PM Friday, Russell County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a parking lot at the intersection of Van Houten Street and Wichita Avenue in Russell to investigate a vehicle with expired registration. After a brief search, the occupants of the vehicle were arrested on numerous drug charges and transported to the Sheriff's Office.

Cheyenne Rae Sheffer and William Wahl were the occupants. The Sheriff's Office said Wahl and Sheffer were charged with obstruction, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and transporting an open container. Wahl was also charged with driving while suspended, no proof of liability insurance and tag not assigned to vehicle.
