Need for Musk Thistle Control Discussed by County Commissioners
- Published on Tuesday, 02 July 2013 10:16
Commissioner Steve Boxberger says musk thistle is an extremely hardy weed that is near impossible to control from year-to-year when neighboring landowners don't work together to kill it.
The Commissioners addressed the issue Monday with Larry Purdy of the County's Noxious Weed Department. They discussed the possibility of cracking down harder on landowners and tenants that don't take the initiative to control musk thistles on their properties. No formal action was taken.
Also Monday, the Commissioners awarded a bid to Farmers Bank of Luray for the financing of the newly purchased fire truck for the Dorrance Fire Department.
They also received updates from the county road and bridge, treasurer and deeds offices. Budget talks regarding the 2014 budget also continued and will continue at least for another couple meetings.
