USD 407 BOE Reorganizes, Approves Agreements for Next School Year, MINUTES NOW INCLUDED

USD 407 BOEAt its regular monthly meeting Monday evening the USD 407 Board of Education conducted its annual reorganization to get set for the 2013-2014 school year.

Various appointments, adoptions and designations for next school year were approved - including election of Board officers, which remained mostly the same from the previous year, approval of handbooks and approval of several federal government mandates.

One of those mandates was a 10 cent hike in lunch charges since USD 407 is still below the national average in meal fees. The Board approved the increase.

In other business, a promotion and retention proposal for students in Ruppenthal Middle School was discussed. The proposal, which was originally brought forward by RMS Principal Gaylon Walter, looks at tightening down and possibly penalizing students who have attendance and grades problems. Superintendent Dave Couch says he likes the proposal, but he thinks it should be something that is enforced district wide.

Something else the Board will address at its August meeting will be the budget for the upcoming school year. To discuss the budget before it's voted upon, the Board on Monday decided to set a budget workshop for July 29 at 5:30 PM.

Executive sessions for personnel matters were held Monday at the meeting as well, with no action being taken.
