KRSL Staff Honored by KAB

KAB LogoThe Kansas Association of Broadcasters announced its 2013 award winners on Monday, Aug. 19.

According to the KAB, a total of 593 entries were submitted by broadcasters from across the state.

KRSL Russell Radio won multiple awards in the small market radio division - three first place, one second and an honorable mention.

Mike McKenna and David Elliott took first for their May 8 severe weather coverage. Elliott won top honors for his "KRSL Morning News." KRSL.com earned a first place award in the station website category. Elliott and McKenna along with Larry and Brenda Calvery and David Fritsch contribute to the site daily.

McKenna also took second place for his play-by-play of the Russell girls state basketball game vs. Caney Valley in March. Mike Blanke provided color commentary for the award-winning game.

KRSL's "Let's Talk Show" received an honorable mention award for it's tribute to former owner and broadcaster Fred White, who passed way earlier this year.

The awards will be handed out at the KAB Convention on Oct. 21 in Manhattan.
