Russell Cares Walk Nets $4000

Food PantryThe Russell Association of Churches' annual Russell Cares Walk netted more than $4000 for the Russell Food Pantry.

More and more people are utilizing the food pantry each year. It will soon be time for the pantry to open enrollment for Thanksgiving baskets. Thus, the additional funding comes at an opportune time.

The Russell Cares Walk replaced the Association's annual CROP Walk. "With CROP, which is a good organization, half of the funds we raised stayed locally," said Rev. Roger Dennis, President of the Association. "With the noticed increased use of the food pantry, the Association decided to try the walk on our own with all the money staying locally. As a result, the total amount given has improved significantly the past two years."

The walkers this year represented Trinity United Methodist, Otterbein United Methodist, St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Bunker Hill United Methodist, Olive Branch Chapel and St. John Lutheran Church. United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger, along with the Russell Regional Hospital and the Russell Rotary Club also contributed to this year's effort. The Russell School District has allowed the Association the use of the stadium and track each year.
