Electrical Upgrades Continue

powerWork to improve Russell's electrical reliability and redundancy continues as completion of a larger wattage capacity power loop around the city nears.

When complete, the power loop will create redundancy in Russell's electrical network, allowing the connection of north and south main transmission lines and in doing so, lessening the likelihood of a city-wide power outage.

Russell Electric Utilities Director Duane Banks says the loop is just one project his department is working on currently to upgrade, update and improve the city's power grid.

The Electric Department also continues work on some of the city's generators because of reliability issues, but more importantly because of the coming EPA emissions standards titled RICE NESHAP compliance. Banks says to become compliant, the city has to reduce its emissions by 70 percent by the spring of 2014.
