Birky's Named Family of the Year

Selection of the award-winning family was made from nominations and an evaluation conducted by the Board of Directors of Post Rock Family Services.
Jon and Kim Birky, who run Klema's Apple Market in Russell, are pictured above with their two sons, 14-year-old Ryan who is an 8th grader at Ruppenthal Middle School and 11-year-old Cole who is a 5th grader at Bickerdyke Elementary School.
According to the nomination letters for the Birky family, they participate in several family activities together, such as attending ballgames, going to church and hunting.
Jon is involved with Shriners and Kiwanis as well as Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. Kim is very involved with school activities. Also, she is a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Altar Guild and is currently president of Delta Mu Sorority. Jon and Kim are described as very supportive, caring and giving people.
Both boys are said to exhibit great respect for others and great work ethic.
"I would say if you would open up the book of family of the year the Birky family should be on the first page," said one of the nomination letters.
The Birky family will be honored at the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade in Russell on November 30.Read More Local News
