County Commissioners Continue Courthouse Addition Planning

Russell County CourthouseThe Russell County Commissioners met Monday and spent a majority of their time discussing the recently approved courthouse addition project.

The addition, which will be built just a few feet to the north of the Russell County Courthouse, will house the offices and courtrooms currently on the second and third floors. The purpose of the project is to increase ease of use and bring the facility up to accessibility code.

Commissioner Brad Zweifel says the process is in its infancy.

The Commissioners are hoping to have the addition complete within one and a half to two years.

Another facility discussed by the Commissioners at Monday's meeting was the EMS and County Extension building on South Fossil Street.

Zweifel says the Extension Office just completed its move from the Courthouse to the facility on South Fossil in the last couple weeks and some kinks are still being worked out.

Also during Monday's session, upcoming bridge inspections were addressed and a new emergency dispatching service that sends alerts to cell phones was tested.
