Mai Takes Grand Champion Honors at World Pork Expo

Lane Mai Champion Crossbred BoarA Crossbred Boar shown by Lane Mai of rural Russell was named Grand Champion Crossbred Boar of the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa last week.

Tiffanie Mai, Lane's mother, told KRSL News Monday they were completely shocked when the results were announced. "It's like a dream come true," she said. "We never thought this would happen."

She said the show judge said the champion animal "lit his fire" and that Lane should be very proud of himself.

Adam Beck with Crossroads Genetics of Indiana bought the boar Saturday for $51,000. The animal's pedigree was from Bone Thug and On the Verge.

Lane also showed a York Boar that placed eighth in its class. Premium Blend Genetics purchased it.
