Chris Cagle Rocks Freedom Fest 2014

Freedom Fest 2014 1Country music artist Chris Cagle, along with the Jeremy Nichols Band and local band DIRT, capped off a full day of activities Friday in Russell as part of the 2014 Freedom Fest celebration.

Around 250 runners participated in the Dynamite Dash at Lasada to get the day started.

At noon, the VFW Post 6240 building hosted a packed-house crowd for the annual patriotic program and lunch. Veterans Jack Benander and Bob Rhodes were honored. Mick Allen presented the keynote speech. The Daughters of the American Revolution also performed a skit.

Following bingo and a cake walk at the VFW, everything moved out to the Russell County Fairgrounds where the concerts started at about 5:45.

KRSL's Mike McKenna emceed the concerts. Before Cagle took the stage at 9 PM, the Carter family was recognized for their work with the public fireworks display each year and a moment of silence was observed in honor of Ernie Carter who passed away recently.
