According to Natoma Fire Chief Keith Koelling, the blaze occurred on a property near the south edge of the Paradise-Waldo-Natoma Fire District approximately three miles east of the Russell County Landfill near the intersection of Land Road and 187th. All Russell County Fire Departments were dispatched to the fire.
The home, owned by Jim Schoenberger, is a total loss Koelling said.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental by the State Fire Marshal's Office Monday. Russell City Fire Chief Shane Preston said the fire started above the kitchen in the attic near an electrical panel. Some type of electrical short or surge sparked the blaze, Preston said.
No injuries were reported.
Koelling said the Schoenbergers had just left earlier Sunday for a vacation to Alaska, but responded back to their home after the fire was reported.
