Bunker Hill Sun Mart Scammed

Crime PhotoThe Sun Mart truck stop at the Bunker Hill Interstate 70 exit in Russell County was scammed out of over $1000 Sunday night.

According to the Russell County Sheriff's Office, at 11:16 PM Sunday, an employee at the truck stop called 911 requesting a deputy respond as a male came into the business and claimed he was from their corporate headquarters.

The man advised the company was investigating the manager of the Bunker Hill store for theft. He requested the money for the day be given to him so he could count it before it could be turned over to the manager. He was given the money.

The man also previously called the store. The number that appeared on the caller identification was determined to be the same phone number that had called the 24/7 store in Russell earlier Sunday requesting the same type of financial information.

The man is described as white, 25 to 27 years old, 5'8" to 5'10" and 110 to 120 pounds with no facial hair except for dirty blonde sideburns, wearing a flat-billed black cap, white shirt, white shoes and black athletic shorts.

If you have any information regarding this scam and theft, contact the Russell County Sheriff's Office at 785-483-2151.
