Kuntzsch Wins Commissioner Primary

Election 2014Incumbent Republican Alan Kuntzsch defeated Mick Allen by 44 votes for Russell County's First District Commissioner position in Tuesday's Primary Election.

According to the Russell County Clerk's Office, the unofficial count was 256 votes and 54.7 percent for Kuntzsch, and 212 votes and 45.3 percent for Allen.

Russell resident Alvin Zahnter received 148 votes in Russell County for US Senator. He was opposed by fellow Republicans Milton Wolf, DJ Smith and incumbent Pat Roberts. Wolf won Russell County with 498 votes, but Roberts won the final statewide count.

Russell County Clerk Mary Nuss said the voter turnout Tuesday was a higher-than-expected 32 percent. Just over 1400 Russell County ballots were cast.

The results are not official until canvassing on Monday, August 11 at 10 AM.
