USD 407 BOE 7-13-15The USD 407 Board of Education met Monday evening and discussed an internet radio broadcasting proposal, program planning, scholarships and a reading program at the elementary schools.

The Board approved moving forward with a proposal to launch an internet-streamed radio station program at Russell High School next school year.

Program supervisor and RHS teacher James Martin...

Superintendent Angela Lawrence...

Lawrence says there are many advantages to offering a program like this.

RHS Junior Chandler Kitchen says the station's programming will include interviews, news, sports, weather and music.

Also Monday, the Board discussed program planning for next school year.

Superintendent Lawrence says there's a possibility of having more than 70 Kindergarteners in the district next year.

Another section of third grade might be added as well because of large numbers.

Also at the meeting, the Board awarded the annual Flora Bigler and Frances Brundage Scholarships to RHS Seniors Alaina Gfeller and Cameron Kilian.

The Board also received a presentation from several district elementary teachers about the Lexia Reading Program and how it's helping students increase their reading proficiency.
