Russell Police, KBI Investigating Child Abuse Case

Russell Police DepartmentThe Russell Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate a child abuse case in Russell involving a 14-month-old boy. According to the KBI, the boy has died.

On Sunday, April 16, Russell Police received a call regarding a male juvenile who was being treated at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

A KBI spokesperson confirmed Thursday the boy died Wednesday night and an autopsy was conducted.

No arrests have been made and no other details have been released by Russell Police or the KBI.

According to a cousin of the boy, Deidra Basgall of Russell, a fund for funeral expenses has been set up at Sunflower Bank. Folks wanting to donate can contact the Sunflower Bank in Russell or any Sunflower Bank in the area. Mason jars for donations have also been placed at several businesses in Russell.

Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, KRSL is not releasing the boy's name.
