Georgia Man Arrested in Russell County for Possession of Stolen Property

Russell County SheriffRussell County Sheriff's Deputies along with Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers responded to the area of Plymouth Road and 199th in rural Russell County Monday morning for a report of a vehicle parked in a milo field.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, information obtained earlier related the vehicle to possible pursuits in Saline and Ellsworth Counties because of the vehicle being stolen out of Georgia.

Deputies and troopers arrived on scene and took into custody without incident Stewart Lee Smoot of Savannah, Georgia.

Also recovered was a 2000 Toyota Camry bearing Georgia tag CAD 3863.

Further investigation found the vehicle was not stolen, but the tag was stolen out of Georgia.

Smoot was transported to the Russell County Jail and booked in on possession of stolen property and criminal damage to property.

The case is still under investigation.
