Russell City Council Approves Resolution for Wind Farm Agreement

Russell City Council 2-7-17The Russell City Council approved a resolution Tuesday authorizing the execution of an agreement between the City and the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency for Russell to buy in to the Buckeye Wind Farm in Ellis County.

The City of Russell has 17.5 megawatts of base load electric capacity secured through long-term contracts, which includes 10.5 megawatts from the Midwest Kansas Electric Cooperative according to City Manager Jon Quinday.

The agreement for the Buckeye Wind Farm is for 15 years.

Also Tuesday, the Council set a public hearing for November 21 at 4:30 PM at City Hall for an airport fund budget amendment.

Those two items were addressed during a special meeting.

Following the meeting, the Council held its monthly work study session, which included a presentation regarding a wastewater collection and lagoon treatment plan.


A couple recommendations were made to increase efficiency and lifespan, including sludge removal and reduction of inflow and infiltration.

Also Tuesday, the Council reviewed the City's snow and ice removal policy, the proposed vacant building ordinance and discussed councilmember elections at large.
