Russell City Council Discusses Recycling, Water Source Development

Russell City Council 2-7-17The Russell City Council discussed the city's recycling program and water source development at Tuesday's work study session.

During the last few years, Russell has expanded its recycling program to include recycling trailers that collect plastic, tin, glass and aluminum.

The program has been very successful, in fact, according to City Manager Jon Quinday, the trailers can't keep up, especially with the plastic.

In the short-term, city officials will try to see if the trailers can be hauled away more often.

Also Tuesday, the Council discussed continued research into water source development options for the city.

At the Council's regular meeting on December 19, an agreement between the city and RMA Engineering of Minneapolis will be considered for approval to research water well exploration along the Saline River north of Russell.

Also Tuesday, the Council continued its discussion regarding the possibility of doing away with the ward-council system and switching to an at-large council system or a commission form.
