USD 407 BOE Approves Implementation of Boys Town Behavior Model, Names Dempewolf Simpson Principal

USD 407 BOE 4-16-18The USD 407 Board of Education met Monday evening and approved the implementation of the Boys Town Behavior Model for the upcoming school year.

USD 407 faculty and staff will have a two-day Boys Town training later this year.

Also Monday, the Board discussed the possibility of starting a district-sponsored preschool.

It's been a topic of discussion for the last couple years and it was announced Monday that a local resident has decided to donate a building to be used for a district preschool.

USD 407 will conduct an evaluation and inspection of the building to see if it will work for a preschool to possibly open in the fall of 2019.

Also Monday, the Board discussed a proposal from DS Bus Lines in regards to possibly outsourcing the district's route bus service. It was the consensus of the Board to not outsource the service at this time and to continue to maintain the district's own fleet.

Also, a contract modification was approved Monday for Andrew Dempewolf.Andrew Dempewolf

He served as a 5th Grade Teacher this past year at Bickerdyke Elementary School in Russell. It was announced a few months ago he would serve as Assistant Principal at Simpson and Bickerdyke Elementary Schools starting in the fall of this year.

Since then, current SES and BES Principal Jim Moeder announced his resignation.

The Board approved a contract modification to name Dempewolf the Simpson Principal and will now look to hire a Bickerdyke Principal, effectively splitting up the job.

Dempewolf graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin in 2008. He then went to Fort Hays State University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education in 2012. He returned to FHSU shortly after graduating and obtained a master's degree in Educational Administration in 2014.

Prior to teaching at Bickerdyke, Dempewolf taught 3rd Grade in Pierre, South Dakota for four years.

He and his wife Jenna have been married for five years. They have two children, Gentry and Braxton.
