Substation Switch-Over Completed

Original story posted Wednesday, September 12: The electric transformer equipment failure that occurred on Thursday, August 30 at the Sunflower Interconnection Substation required a mobile transformer from Liberal to re-establish the interconnection tie to the transmission grid while the failed equipment was replaced.

Sunflower Electric and Western Cooperative have completed repairs and testing on the permanent transformer.

The switch-over from the temporary transformer to the permanent transformer originally scheduled for September 7 has now been scheduled for 8 AM on Thursday, September 13.

A service interruption is not anticipated during the switch-over. However, an outage is possible. Please make necessary arrangements.

City of Russell staff thank you for your patience and understanding as the necessary repairs were made safely.
