Man Arrested Saturday Following Police Pursuit, Manhunt

Police ChaseLocal law enforcement officers arrested a man Saturday morning on multiple charges following a police pursuit and manhunt.

According to dispatch logs, at 2:19 AM Saturday, a Russell Police Officer identified a subject at 24/7 Travel Store in Russell based on information from Ellis County as a Kansas Department of Corrections absconder with warrants out of Ellis County and Department of Corrections.

The subject, Matt Alvis, left westbound on Interstate 70 in a gold 2000 Chevy Impala.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on I-70. The vehicle did not yield and the officer, as well as additional units from the Russell PD and Russell County Sheriff's Office, pursued the vehicle into Ellis County where the vehicle exited at the Walker exit and continued southbound on Walker Avenue before stopping in a field south of Smoky Hill River Road.

Alvis fled the vehicle and units advised it appeared he fled to the southeast.

A perimeter was set up and Ellis County K-9 units responded.

At 5:28 AM Saturday, Alvis was located and placed under arrest on the strength of the warrant.

Alvis was transported to Russell Regional Hospital and then to the Russell County Jail.

Alvis was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, felony interference with law enforcement, driving while suspended, reckless driving, improper driving on a laned roadway and speeding.
