USD 407 BOE Votes to Put $17.5 Million Bond on Ballot

USD 407 BOE 10-8-18The USD 407 Board of Education voted four-to-three Monday evening to put a $17.5 million bond on the ballot for the spring of 2019 for facilities upgrades.

Boardmember Jon Quinday made the motion. He, along with Raeleen Reinhardt, Dr. Matt Nichols and Andrea Krug-Krauss, voted in favor. Duane Adams, Kevin Ochs and Char Sohm voted no.

Swayne explains the additional priorities.

That reconstruction of the Kindergarten wing at Simpson will also include the addition of two new classrooms, making it a total of six classrooms on that wing. USD 407 is facing overcrowding issues at both elementary schools.

Also Monday, the Board voted unanimously to remove the interim title from Superintendent Swayne and extend her contract for one year.

Also Monday, the Board approved the purchase of new LED stage lighting for the Ruppenthal Middle School auditorium for approximately $15,000.

Bids were also approved to repair areas of the RMS roof that are leaking. The repairs will not exceed $125,000.USD 407 BOE Honors Richard and Ann Cross 10-8-18

Also at the meeting, the Board heard a presentation from the new eSports Club at Russell High School and voted to establish an activities fund for the internet gaming club.

Richard and Ann Cross of Russell, who recently donated a building to USD 407 to be used as a district preschool, were also recognized and thanked at the meeting (pictured with the Board).
