Minor Flooding Reported in Russell County

FloodRussell County and many areas in central Kansas received significant amounts of rainfall from October 5 through October 9.

Minor flooding was reported in Russell County, mainly along the Smoky Hill River and Saline River.

5.89 inches of rain fell at the Russell Municipal Airport between Friday and Tuesday. KRSL Russell Radio in Russell received 6.10 inches. Other areas in Russell County received more than eight inches of rain and some areas in Barton and Ellsworth Counties received more than nine inches of rain.

A River Flood Warning was issued Tuesday evening by the National Weather Service for the Smoky Hill River in Russell County and the Warning is set to expire Wednesday night. The NWS said the river was expected to rise to 18.5 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet.

The Russell County Road and Bridge Department received a few calls Tuesday reporting water over rural roads, however, major flooding was not reported in Russell County.
