Trojans Spoil RHS Senior Night

Russell Bronco FootballThe Russell Bronco football team lost 48-21 to the Beloit Trojans on Friday, October 19 at Shaffer Field in Russell.

Beloit (5-3, 3-2 3A District 8) scored the first touchdown of the game at the 9:24 mark in the first quarter when quarterback Grant Arasmith rushed six yards for a score. Russell (2-6, 0-5 3A District 8) answered with 5:32 to play in the opening period with a three yard touchdown run by running back Glen Law to finish an 11-play, 50-yard drive. Bronco kicker Guilherme Vieira tied the game with the extra point. However, the Trojans then scored two quick TDs to end the first quarter and led 21-7 after one.

Beloit's Arasmith scored two more rushing touchdowns in the second frame and running back Tate Ahlvers added another to give the Trojans a 41-7 advantage at the half.

Beloit scored one TD in the third quarter and led 48-7 heading into the final period.

With a running clock much of the fourth quarter, the Broncos scored two touchdowns in the final stanza. The first was a 61 yard TD pass from quarterback Austin Price to wide receiver Travis Tammen to cap off a six-play, 94-yard drive. The final touchdown was an 86 yard scamper by running back Jesse Whitmer. Vieira connected on both extra point kicks. However, it was too little, too late.

The Broncos totaled 148 yards on the ground and 112 yards through the air. Price passed for 106 yards. Whitmer rushed for 110 yards.

Beloit totaled 204 yards on the ground and 159 yards through the air. Arasmith rushed for 115 yards and passed for 159 yards. Wide receiver Hudson Smith caught five passes for 110 yards.

Russell lost one fumble and threw two interceptions. Beloit only threw one interception.
