Russell Girls Defeat Ellsworth, Will Play for Third

Russell Bronco BasketballThe Russell High School girls basketball team defeated Ellsworth 44-26 on Thursday, December 6 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell to earn a trip to the third place game of the Amos Morris Classic tournament on Saturday, December 8.

Russell led 8-6 after one period, but pulled away in the second quarter and took a 25-11 lead into the halftime break. Ellsworth hit three three-pointers in the third frame and outscored Russell 9-7, but the Lady Broncos led 32-20 heading into the final stanza. Russell allowed only one Lady Bearcat field goal in the fourth quarter and the Lady Broncos cruised to victory.

Megan Peeler and Tiffany Dortland each scored 14 points to pace Russell.

The Lady Broncos improve to 2-1 overall.

The Russell girls will host Smith Center on Saturday, December 8 at 2 PM at Amos Morris Gym. The Lady Red lost 57-26 to Central Plains on Thursday. The Lady Oilers will have a rematch with Phillipsburg in Saturday's championship game as the Lady Panthers defeated Plainville 42-41 on Thursday. Ellsworth and Plainville will play for fifth.
