Wilson Fends Off Natoma Comeback

NATOMA-Brady Mermis scored 18 points and Ethan Dlabal added 17 as the Wilson Dragons held off numerous rallies and defeated the Natoma Tigers 61-48 Tuesday evening at Tiger Gym.

The Dragons used hot shooting early from Tristan Soukup and Mermis to score the game's first nine points in the opening minutes before Jayce Dickerson knocked down a three-pointer to get the Tigers on the board.  Wilson led by as many as 14 points before settling for a 19-7 lead.

Natoma pulled to within 21-15 early in the second quarter but Mermis scored eight points to send the Dragons into the locker room with a 31-19 advantage at intermission.  Natoma made another run during the third quarter but Garrett Thielen scored five points to spark a Dragon run resulting in a 45-30 lead with eight minutes remaining.

After trailing by 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Tigers went on a 10-1 run to pull to within 48-41 but then Dlabal heated up as Wilson finished the game on a 13-7 surge to pull away for their third win in a row.

Joining Mermis and Dlabal in double figures for Wilson (4-3, 2-0) was Soukup who had 12 points and Thielen who chipped in with 11.  Dickerson led the Tigers (2-5, 0-3) with 15 points, Jayson Engling added 12 and Shayne Engling contriubuted 10.

Both teams will now head into the holiday break.  Wilson tips off action in the New Year with a home game against Southern Cloud on January 4 while Natoma will play host to Sylvan-Lucas January 8.
