Beloit Takes Two in Russell

The Russell High School girls basketball team fell 40-36 to Beloit on Friday, January 4 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.

The Lady Broncos scored the first two points of the game, but then allowed a 9-0 Lady Trojan run and Beloit led 11-4 after one quarter. Russell outscored Beloit 12-5 in the second period and the two teams were tied 16-16 at the half. The Lady Broncos extended their lead to 26-20 after three quarters, but Beloit shot 10-of-14 from the free throw line in the fourth frame, reclaimed the lead and held on for the win.

Tiffany Dortland and Megan Peeler led Russell with nine points each. Lauren Myers totaled nine rebounds.

Shea Larson and Sydney Barrett each scored 12 points for Beloit.

Russell drops to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the NCAA.

In the boys game, Beloit cruised to a 62-28 win.

Russell trailed 20-14 after one period, 32-14 at the break and 48-19 after three quarters.

Tyler Whipple and Austin Price led Russell with eights points each.

Vincent Palen paced Beloit with 17 points. Carson Cox followed with 11 points and Tate Thompson scored 10 points.

The Trojans out-rebounded Russell 35-19.

The Russell boys fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.
