RHS Broncos Sweep Ellsworth

The Russell High School girls basketball team defeated Ellsworth 52-41 in Ellsworth on Tuesday, January 29 for the Lady Broncos' third win of the season over the Lady Bearcats.

The Russell girls led 17-15 after the first quarter and 25-23 at halftime. The Lady Broncos stretched their lead to 42-31 after three frames and held Ellsworth at bay in the final period.

Tiffany Dortland led Russell with a career-high 33 points. She hit three three-pointers and was 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

As a team, the Lady Broncos were 11-of-13 from the foul line.

Lakyn Tenbrink led Ellsworth with 14 points and Jaide Talbott followed with 12 points.

The Russell girls improve to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the NCAA, which leads the league.

The Russell boys also picked up a league win on Tuesday as they defeated Ellsworth 60-53.

The Broncos jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one period and led 34-27 at the half. Russell held a 46-40 advantage after three quarters and hit free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

Austin Price led Russell with 24 points and six three-pointers. Tyler Whipple followed with 19 points and five threes. Jacob Sohm recorded 10 rebounds.

For Ellsworth, Avery Haxton led with 14 points, Bransen Schulte finished with 13 points and 11 boards, and Grant Gwinner scored 12 points.

The Broncos improve to 5-8 overall and 2-5 in the league.
