SYLVAN GROVE-Alex Hickel scored 17 points and Devin Ryan added 16 as the Central Plains Oilers cruised to the Sylvan-Lucas Regional Boys Championship with a 59-17 victory over Sylvan-Lucas Sunday evening at Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School.

The Mustangs because they were the lower seed were the designated visiting team despite playing on their home floor.  They jumped out to an early 5-0 lead only to see the Oilers scored the game's next 29 ppoints.  Central Plains led 17-5 after one quarter and 32-8 at halftime.

Central Plains widened their lead by outscoring the Mustangs 23-7 in the third quarter before closing out their 48th straight victory with a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Also scoring in double figures for the Oilers was Brett Liebl who had 14 ponits.  Jonah Huehl paced the Mustangs with six points.

Sylvan-Lucas is now 15-5 on the season while Central Plains ran its perfect record to 22-0.  Earlier Sunday, Central Plains also captured the Girls Regional title with a 62-32 win over Otis-Bison.  The win ran the Lady Oilers winning streak to 106 games, just one shy of Hoxie's state record of 107.

Sylvan-Lucas will move on to the Class 1A Sub-State tournament later this week.  They will either play at Amos Morris Gymnasium in Russell or at Trego County High School in Wakeeny.  KSHSAA is expected to release the brackets no later than Monday.
